OPEN ROLES AND DESCRIPTIONS 

To apply, send your CV, cover letter, and three to five examples of your writing to editor@massivemagazine.org.nz with the subject line ‘Application for insert role here’. Don’t be shy, any examples of writing will do from an essay from class or a poem from your note’s app.

All roles are paid living wage.

Auckland Reporter (4 hours) 

Do you like to be political, outspoken, and opinionated? News reporters at Massive are tasked with doing just that. You’ll attend protests, interview anyone from students to politicians, and you may even go undercover. 

You will be responsible for keeping students in the loop with what is happening on the Auckland campus — good and bad. You will track down stories, investigate, and conduct interviews to produce one news article per week. 

This role is perfect for (but is not limited to) any students studying anything related to writing or wishing to get experience in a newsroom type setting. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Complete one news article per week 

  • Attend one pitch meetings per week where you provide and brainstorm story ideas 

  • Adhere to deadlines 

Skills and Experience: 

  • Must be a student at Massey University 

  • Interest in current events, politics and media 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 

Palmerston North Reporter (4 hours)

Pasifika Writer (4 hours)

Are you passionate about telling Pasifika stories? Then you could be our new Pasifika Writer. You might deep dive into Pasifika history, investigate unfairness within the university system or New Zealand in general, highlight Pasifika artists and icons, or share personal stories. You will not be confined to writing just about Pasifika and will also be free to explore topics and genres.

You will be responsible for writing one article a week that makes students laugh, cry, smile, or find a new perspective. This could be features, personal essays, profiles, investigations, reviews, creative writing, quizzes and more.

Responsibilities: 

  • Complete one feature article per week 

  • Attend one pitch meetings per week where you provide and brainstorm story ideas 

  • Adhere to deadlines 

Skills and Experience: 

  • Must be a student at Massey University 

  • Interest in current events, politics and media 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
