Breaking News: Salient editor resigns following controversy
The editor of Victoria University’s student magazine, Salient, has resigned following his sexual assault confession and his team requesting he leave.
This follows an article released by Massive yesterday addressing Salient staff concerns.
Since April, four staff have left the magazine. However, the exiting editor said they will now be offered their jobs back.
Will Irvine said he had resigned for a combination of reasons.
“One is the harassment I’ve been getting since your [Massive’s] article came out which has been really severe.”

With four staff resignations, Irvine said that prior to the release of Massive’s article he saw indication that he probably wasn’t going to be able to run the magazine.
“We do have a really really fantastic team and I’m sad to be leaving them, but I think it is the right choice.”
He said he was dropping out of university and moving back home to live with family.
“I’m just going to enjoy having a quiet life for the next couple years.”
Salient’s website no longer lists Irvine on the staff page, and a message at the top read: “The 2025 Salient Team is currently undergoing some changes. Please check back later for new staffing details.”
