Albany Students’ Association (ASA) President Lance Walsh is ready to pass on the torch, confirming he is unlikely to run for the president’s role next year.
Nominations for the 2018 ASA Executive open on August 14 and anyone on campus is welcome to run for a spot, including the presidency.
Walsh says he has already had a couple of people approach him wishing to put up their hands and run for the top job for next year.
“I doubt I will be running as I enter fourth year engineering,” he says. “I really hope whoever it is can continue on the current goals of the executive.”
Walsh says an ideal president is someone who can show leadership and someone who is willing to listen.
“You need to be someone who is willing to help students and to represent students at Massey University.”
While there is just one spot for a president, there are a number of spots on the executive and Walsh says he encourages everyone to think about putting their name forward.
“A good executive member will be willing to actively engage in the various objectives of the ASA,” Walsh says.
“It looks fantastic on your CV and is a great opportunity for professional development. It’s also really rewarding and you meet some amazing people.”
