Students get competitive at Skull Cup 2019

Vet students teamed up for sporty, boozy challenges in their annual ‘Skull Cup’ last weekend.

As the end of the year approaches the animal lovers get together for a weekend of battles to find who the best class is at sports.

The weekend started with a ‘make and race your own raft’ at the Hokowhitu lagoon.

It was a great day for all on Saturday until student Ryan Monte got "smashed in the face" during a game.

"My mouth was pouring with blood and my girlfriend was so competitive she was still telling me to run with the ball for points," he said.

However, it wasn't all about competition. Vet students had a bake sale at the event as a fundraising opportunity to raise money for a weekend of skydiving, white-water rafting, or relaxing at the spa as the 3rd year vet students reach half-way through their 5-year degree in the middle of next year.

"The bake sale was the best. The weekend was fucking intense and I could not get up the next morning," said second-year student Charlotte Bellaton.

At the moment, the second-year vet students are finishing up the annual "Naked Vet Calendar" for 2020.

The calendars are due to be printed and set for sale by December.

Sale stalls for the calendar will be spread around the Manawatū campus as well as the usual uni events.
