Carly Rae Jepsen: Dedicated

If you had told me that my favourite album of the year so far would be from the singer of the cheesiest 2011 pop song that I still get PTSD from whenever it comes on in Dakota, I wouldn’t have believed you. Yet here we are; Carly Rae Jepsen has released an incredible pop album and I cannot believe that no one is talking about it.

Following up her other incredible yet incredibly under-listened 2015 album Emotion, Jepsen has released Dedicated and honestly, it is perfect. You could just stop reading now because it is awesome and that is all you need to know; it is a perfect pop album with awesome instrumentals and catchy lyrics where every song is of a pretty high standard. Apparently, she wrote at least 200 songs for the album so here are her 14 favourites. The weakest song is unfortunately the opening track Julien, so on my first listen of the album after hearing it I was contemplating whether the rest of the album was worth listening to, but now on my 30th listen I am glad I pushed through. Each song on the album sounds different enough yet perfectly fits with the song that precedes it. Sure, you’ve heard the lyrics in different variations before by other pop artists and there is nothing super unique here, but Jepsen’s pop sound is so pure and upbeat you cannot help but love it. I don’t want to sound like I am gushing or overly praising, but realistically that is what I am doing and exactly what I think this album deserves.

Help bump Carly Rae Jepsen into the limelight where she deserves to be; this album is genuinely incredible and needs to be talked about, just go listen to it for yourself and love it too.
