A DIFFERENT KIND OF RUN

Not your usual 5km run, Run The Night hits Auckland on March 27.

The event, which is held in association with Massey University, is a “combination of a run and a club experience all rolled into one,” according to Event Director, Scott Rice.

Rice said that while there was “a real trend and a bit of a cult following for these types of night run events” around the world, he thought it would be “a fantastic opportunity to create a Kiwi version”.  Similar events have been held in about 16 different countries.

“We created the event to give people the opportunity to try out a bit of running (as well as dancing) in a fun, non-competitive environment, while being exposed to an amazing light and sound system along the way.” He added that “the cherry on top is having the [90 minute] Jupiter Project set which will finish off the night.”

The R16, alcohol-free event will be held at the Auckland Domain, with over 10,000 light bulbs and 100 concert quality speakers. Rice said “we thought the Auckland Domain was a great location and the lighting and sound system along the 5km course will really transform the space.”

When asked why people should participate in Run The Night, Rice said that “running at night is fun. Running at night around a course filled with every imaginable lighting effect under the stars is on a whole other level. It’s going to be like nothing you’ve ever seen or participated in before.”

According to Rice, “the brighter the better, so people can really let their creative juices flow to stand out on the night,” adding that “it’s a great opportunity to get friends together as a ‘team’ or go as a group.”

While the event was targeted at 18 to 35 year olds, Rice said that anyone over 16 was welcome to come. “The run is all about having fun with your mates and absorbing the music, lights and party atmosphere.”

Rice also acknowledged the event’s sponsors, saying “we’ve got some great sponsors on board who have really helped bring this event to life…without them we wouldn’t have been able to do it.”

Tickets for the event are available here.
